You could pick any other death out of today's newspaper and it would be at least as sad. My neighbours wife died last week, that was really sad. But she didn't pickle her liver and have a public profile

He was found surrounded by 30 bottles of whisky and heroin paraphernalia. Scottish police have said there were no suspicious circumstances.
His final act of politics was to raise the Scottish life expectancy.

67 no one has confirmed why he died yet.
That idiot lembit Opik was just on sky news and promptly announced him and the SNP person who beat Kennedy were in the House of Commons discussing it a few days ago and predicted this would happen.
Now bearing in mind opik isn't an MP and hasn't been for five years I fail to see what he was doing in the House of Commons. Then he went in a rant about Kennedy having to resign as lib dem leader.
You can't have a drunk as your leader, if he hadn't had quit he could have been deputy prime minister the last five years I mean can you imagine?

Polite mate ,I think quite a lot of people have people in families or close freinds with Alcohol abuse problems ls , I think its also a case There but for the grace of god go I' For many people Alcohol addiction is a terrible disease and Kennedy was a Talented man and it took his life
A mate of mine aged 46 died of a stroke about 2 months ago, he was a big drinker all his life

His marriage broke up five years ago following his failure to attend his mother in law's funeral. He has a ten year old son.
I thought he looked very peculiar on Question Time around a couple of months ago. I'm afraid it looks very much like drink did for him.
I liked Charlie boy.

As far as politicians go I quite liked the old soak.
My point was that there are a lot of sad deaths everyday - Kennedy is no sadder than many of them, it's the public display of faux grief I find distasteful

He earned loads doing one of the most cushiest jobs on earth. It was good while it lasted but getting the sack was too much for him.

Was an MP for 32 years until he lost his seat this time. You fear that someone with his problems may not have been able to deal with that blow in a rational way.
He may have been a drunk but he was clear headed and rational enough to see through Blair's lies on the Iraq war.

He did the right thing on the Iraq war Sven and earnt my respect over it. It's a shame about the drink because he would have made a good Scottish first minister in a different life.

Sad news, I quite liked him, bit of a character as well and the times I saw him, he seemed down to earth and a decent bloke.
Would guess losing his seat in the election hit him pretty hard, he in turn would more than likely drowned his sorrows.
